Finishing up the year in Jerusalem

6/8/2016

It has been an incredible year studying, writing, and playing music in Jerusalem. I only have about a month left here, and I am going to try to make the most of it with recordings and performance. For those of you who weren't able to make the show on June 2nd, here is a playlist from a concert I just did as my final presentation for the Dorot Fellowship. Hope you enjoy and find something meaningful and inspiring in it. Thanks for listening.

Words for Sarah and Music for Shabbat

11/14/2014

For our ancient mother, Sarah, and for those who would like to remember that in both death and life, we can have a profound impact in the story of our families, our people, and the world. Shabbat Shalom!

Dwelling in the dusty gray

Dwelling in the dusty gray
In the beginning at the end.
I wear garlic, sapphires, and mud
Protection and sheen for the queen
Jewels and roots both bake under the sun as they set.
Vanity vanity, it’s all vanity.
Or is it transience?

I’ll be old just like you.
And I’ll look at my reflection which I’ll believe is myself for a second untiI I realize it’s Rocks.
And then we’ll be rocks.
Mornings, noons, evening times.

Master of the Cosmos
Ultimate watcher of the unfolding
Let me know my place in this world
That I may be uplifted and illuminated
And bring warmth, light, and continuity
Into the orbit of others.
And though I am
Like the dust on the ground
Let me swirl and be carried
By the breeze for this brief moment
That is a lifetime.

AND this awesome Jewish Turkish song called "La Comida la Mañana" about a girl in love with a boy and her mother telling her how it really is.  Also Recorded by Turkish Jewish American singer, Victoria Hazan.
